Yes. Cool Strokes is a mobile, one-on-one swim instruction service. I come to your home pool in El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, and the rest of the South Bay, as well as the Westside of Los Angeles and Malibu. There's no facility to drive to and no crowded group schedule.

Yes. Lessons take place at a private pool you provide or arrange, such as your home pool or another private pool you have access to. If you're not sure whether your pool will work, send me a note and we'll figure it out.

Yes. I teach children, teens, and adults. Lessons for kids are built around your child's comfort level and pace, with a focus on comfort in the water, breath control, floating, and real swimming skills. As a parent, you'll always know what we're working on and how your child is progressing.

For many kids, yes. A lot of my students came to me after group lessons didn't work for them. In a private lesson, the entire session is built around your child: how they learn, what they're comfortable with, and what's actually holding them back. There's no waiting in line for a turn. Progress looks different for every child, and I'll keep you updated on where they are and what comes next.

Yes. Adult beginners and nervous swimmers are a big part of what I do. We start wherever you're comfortable, whether that's standing in the shallow end or putting your face in the water for the first time, and we don't move on until you're ready. Many of the adults I work with tried to learn for years before it finally clicked.

Yes. For swimmers who already have the basics, I offer private coaching focused on stroke technique, efficiency, endurance, and fitness. With a competitive NCAA background and USA Swimming club coaching experience, I can make lessons as technical as you want.
-
Yes. I teach private beginner surf lessons at South Bay beaches. Boards are provided. You need to be a comfortable swimmer before surfing, and if you're not there yet, we can start with swim lessons. Surf lessons are 60 minutes: $110 for a single lesson, $105 per lesson in a 4-pack, or $100 per lesson in an 8-pack.

Private swim lessons are priced per swimmer, per lesson. Single lessons are $60 for 30 minutes, $70 for 45 minutes, or $80 for 60 minutes. With a 4-lesson package, the prices are $55, $65, or $75 per lesson. With an 8-lesson package, they're $50, $60, or $70 per lesson. Small-group lessons for 2 to 4 swimmers (siblings or friends) start at $80 per lesson for the whole group. Packages are paid in full before the first lesson, and I accept Apple Pay, Zelle, Venmo, check, or cash. Lessons farther from El Segundo may cost more.

I do, every lesson. I'm Adrien Hosking, founder of Cool Strokes. I swam four years of NCAA Division II at Florida Tech, have coached with USA Swimming club programs, and have taught more than 1,000 private lessons since starting Cool Strokes in 2020. I'm CPR/AED certified.
